Write to a file

Hi,

Im trying to get a guestbook working on my website. Im running Mandrake 9.1 with apache.

The problem is that when the form is filled out and sent the data doesn't appear to have been written to the .dat file.

Im sure its not the code as I've tried several versions from the internet including an SQL version which displayed the table but wouldn't update it.

I have tried to change the permissions to for the files to 'apache' or 'nobody' but they don't make any difference.

Any Ideas?

Are you positive the data is being sent correctly?
As in, if you send a POST form, are you able to retrieve $_POST["fieldname"]?

Well if the data is sent correctly, then it might be a problem with your script itself.

Maybe you could post a short snippet of relevant code?

I didn't generate the script myself. I got two versions from:

The top one saves to a txt file and the bottom one uses a SQL database. They both can read the file/database but can't write to them. Could it be apache refusing to write to files?

Did you remember to CHMOD the file you are writing to so that it is writable? To setting up as 777 and see if that works.
