Include file OnChange

I have a select box that contains a list of names. When a user changes the name, I want to display information about that user (e.g. address) on the page below the select box. Is this possible without using frames? Ideally I'd like to use an include file.

Can anyone help?

Well, you couldn't use an include file unless you wanted to reload. Inclusion is server-side, and the javascript is client-side.

You could, however, make a bunch of DIVs with the information, and hide every one but the one you are looking at. (It could be named by ID or after the person, for an example.)

If you want to use inclusion, you'll have to put everything in a form, and have the onChange submit the form. This ensures you do not lose any data, but you will have to compensate for the fact that it can be submitted two ways (submit button, or onChange).

A lot of people (myself included) browse with js off and so I personally wouldn't waste my time with it for anything essential to the page being viewed - candy only imho. Many would probably disagree though.

If you want to display information after selecting a user, presumably you'd need to go server side to get it anyway (well, you wouldn't want to download them all).

After selecting someone, the visitor could click a submit button. The form processor can then send a page with user details and anything else you want.
