I made a script that allowed people to upload a zip archive of images. When I uploaded 10 images or so, the machine would lag pretty bad when it came to the thumbnail generation and moving the files around. The machine running it though is only a celeron 400 with 128megs of ram, but even with a fast PC, you would get alot of lag if several people were uploading at the same time.
