only echoing so much of a blob

hey,

im creating a news script and i put the articals in a blob feild in my database, i want a little caption of the artical on the front page of my site, and a link to read the whole artical.

So my question is how do i limit the amout of data being outputted from the blob field in the database.

I would use the substr function either as you are getting it out of the database, or after you have it in a variable.
