Interpreting HTML pages

Ok I have apache 2.0 and redhat 8.0 installed
It working fine
But i have couple of pages that have php and have a .html extension ..
So i added the following line in httpd.conf

AddType application/x-httpd-php .html

The site works fine in IE.. but when i open it up in Netscape i get a message dialog box saying
"You have started to download a file of type
application/x-httpd-php ...."

and there are 4 buttons that say more info, pick app, save file and cancel.

When I press cancel the site shows up just fine..

So now the question.

Why am i getting the message dialog box to pop up ??

IE has problems with mime. You may have set your server up incorrectly (as far as standards are concerned) but it works in IE. Just a guess, of course....

Thank you for your reply.
I mapped php and php3 to text/html in the MIME types and it works now.

Is this the correct way of doing it or is there a better way ?

Hmm, dunno for sure. I have "mod_mime" and "mod_mime_magic" installed. Also, the DefaultType directive is set text/plain.

The other problem I have, I haven't look at Netscape for about 2 years or so.....

Wish I could give a better answer 🙂
