well, it was working back with XP... but now that I've installed win2k it isn't anymore. and I'm talking about the mail() function... the smtp server itself isn't working.

and yes, I know there are 1 1/2 pages of posts that turn up on a search for "IIS SMTP" on this forum alone... none of them helped....

General Tab:
IP Address: all unassigned

Access Tab:
Access Control:
Anonymous
Basic
Windows Security package
Connection Control:
All except list below (list empty)
Relay Restrictions
All except list below (list empty)
note: also tried only list below with both 192.168.8.18 (my local IP) and 192.168.8.1 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Delivery:
Advanced:
Fully-qualified domain name: fred (note: the domain name is valid)

I think thats all the info you need... if anything else is needed just tell me...

Also, note that I tested the account using outlook...
I tried using both localhost and fred as the smtp server's address... neither worked....

also, I know that somewhere along the line something is working since in inetpub\mailroot\queue the messages I try to send appear... they just don't get sent....

Cos if it was easy, it wouldn't be fun 😃

(sorry I couldn't be of more help)

      Did you get an error?

On Win2K you probably need to set some of your SMTP settings.

To be sure that it is running, right-click My Computer and select Manage. Then navigate to Services and be sure that it (SMTP service) says STARTED (you want this to be automatic, probably)

Secondly, go to the IIS tab in the Computer Management console and locate the default SMTP site/server. Make sure it is also started.

Most errors with regard to mail can be fixed in one of these two spots. If you're not getting an error, then it is working fine and you have a setting problem elsewhere.
