what's the future of php?

As a phpbuilder, do you think php will be defeated by jsp or asp+?

Many people say php is not enough safe, so they give it up and then change to use jsp or asp+.

I am a phpbuilder, when i hear about this times and times again, I turn to confused. Maybe php has many shortcoming, but I stille love php, I don't want to lose php.

Who can convince me to regain my confidence?

I dont think PHP will ever run out. PHP IS safe, but generally only when running on Linux with apache (when running as a module) etc. Windows with apache is a bit worse (when running with apache as a module), but when useing IIS with PHP running as a CGI, its not secure at all.

PHP will always be popular, mainly because its completely open source, and there will always be a place in many people's hearts for it because of this.

What defines the limit?
PHP is used for so many purposes, I don't believe the could be a limit as long as new techologies arise and existings ones keep evolving.

that is really a subjective matter.
like somebody said to me... you can't use the PHP to develop an operating system.. 🙂 so this is a limit from that user perspective!

since people don't think alike therefore i just can say
in my perspective,
php syntax and its module structure is really the best from what i see (subjective too) in current programming languages.

if you look at C, C++, em.. i think they reach the limit.

take a loot in current technology, you see the electric right.
since the creation / found of the electric, until now,
em.. i see biotech.. <= perhaps the future of tech.

people keep extending the electric by building more applications around it. But no new creation/found which has the weight like the electric found. i mean core technology. maybe someday somebody will found a new way to generate electricity, using magnetic ?... i don't know.

one thought which just cross my mind is, since the ansi C and C++ was drafted, the technology for mainboard, processor already far ahead from what the language can do with the advance tech.

therefore, there should be a language that optimize the advance hardware knowledge using the new logic.

imagine in the year of 2020, are we still depend C/C++ to code our application ? I really wonder.

It is very much possible, though those languages are likely to have evolved (again) by then.

PHP in its present form, and even PHP5, is likely to die out eventually.

When quantum computers become viable, some, if not all, languages that wish to use the technology will have to adapt, be it the language itself or the programs that interpret the code, at whatever level.

blah. PHP is sfae and more stable/fast than most web scripting languages (I know, I do IIS benchmarking right now).

em, I not really sure what type of magnet are you referring, but I am certain that current electricity (most countries) is mostly generated using coal, waves force, wind force or a dam by using the water forces to push the turbin inside it.

The magnet I mean is the type that we usually play at school during kids time! em.. can you recall back?

PHP was built from C, C was built from B, B was built from ASM, ASM was built from machine code, em why don't we learn directly the machine code? There are so many middle men around. Sometime I think why don't built PHP from ASM and skip that 2 middle men? ... what do you see?

well... the problem with machine code is that its different for every processor (or group of processors anyway...)

thats why C is so great... its English and very straitforward... you want to do so and so, so you tell the computer "do so and so"...

I can see a new language coming up with the advent of AI, not quantum computers. I think qcs will still use C, but AI's will rely on a different set of instructions since they won't "think" like a computer... all the things that are common sense to us (like "count to ten" or "do this ten times") we have to break down into the lowest form ("this is one, this is two, this is three... this is ten" or if you want to have fun "this is space, this is exclamation mark, this is double quote, this is hash... this is close paren") <- and so is that! 😃. So with AIs, we'll be able to say "do this ten times" instead...

Well, that depends on what level do you mean by AI, I suppose.

I think OO languages can implement artificial neural networks quite easily, but then that isnt the kind of AI as say, some Trekkies would like to think of.

I'm not too sure of the principles of quantum computing though, so I'm not sure if high level languages would need a change of sorts, as in very different compiler designs, or even some re-structuring in the language itself.

well, yes, but the turbine would be an awful waste of energy if it wasnt connected to a generator.
Then the generator isnt a generator if it doesnt involve an electric conductor moving in a magnetic field or a similar electromagnetic relationship a la Faraday's law and Lenz's law.

If M$ says that ASP is best and more safe than PHP, it doesn't mean they are correct.
M$ says things from which it can benefit in business.

Tell those 'slaves of M$' (the ppl who talk that rubbish) many people are moving to PHP from ASP. Thats why scripts like ASP2PHP exist.

Even Yahoo! yes Yahoo is moving to PHP

For one thing I see that you seem to be confusing history with engineering. C is derived from an earlier langauge named B, but that doesn't mean that C is or was written in B. C compilers are mostly written in C, with a bit of assembler to bootstrap from. If you're going to mention B, why not Algol? And if you're going to mention assembler, why not machine code (which is not the same thing)? For that matter, why not point out that PHP was written in Perl before it was written in C? (Where Perl itself of course is written in C.)

I see a PHP->native machine code compiler (at least, I would if there was an assembler, too). A good thing, but not something I'd make a religion out of.

Give me more languages, not fewer. I want plenty of tools in my toolbox, not just a hammer.
