to do client side sorting

Hi...I would like to know how to do the client side sorting.For your information, I have two fields.One Available Names and the other one is Invited Names.In the Available Names field,there are lists of the staffs' name.When we double click on a name,the name will be moved to the Invited Names field.What I need to know now is how to enable the user to sort the namelist in the Available Names field.I am using Javascript,php and HTML.Thank you.

most times the user will click the sort button which will submit a form with sortby options. the sortby is added to the sql query and the data is rebuilt.
