PHP restart?

Excuse me for my lack of knowledge...

I am on IIS/Windows 2000/PHP4 platform and I was wondering about the php.ini file.

If I make changes to the php.ini file, do I have to restart IIS for the changes to take effect? Or do the changes get reflected at runtime?

I'm pretty sure you have to restart the webserver. When I was setting up my php I used to restart the whole computer but the I do get the short bus 😉

From the PHP Manual:

The configuration file (called php3.ini in PHP 3.0, and simply php.ini as of PHP 4.0) is read when PHP starts up. For the server module versions of PHP, this happens only once when the web server is started. For the CGI and CLI version, it happens on every invocation.

again, I apologize for my ignorance on the subject...

"...PHP starts up..." your referring to when the webserver starts up, right?? I'm just having some trouble figuring out where PHP comes in to the scheme of things in a webserver...
