Trying to install PHP

I installed IIS on a win2k server and then PHP using the windows installer.
When I try and test it has installed with <? phpinfo(); ?> all I get is a browser page with <? phpinfo(); ?> shown as text

I have set cgi.force_redirect = 0

Am I doing something exceptionally stupid?

I am not sure about IIS, I am using Apache.

I can think of two errors:

1) Save as .php file?
2) Configured IIS to parse .php file?

I had similar problems with IIS in the past and avoided them by using e-novative's WAMP, which installs all I ever need in just one click. Works perfect for me, you might want to give it a try.
