True that. Sendmail is outdated, and has some security flaws. Sendmail has always been the defacto standard... but there's much better mail servers out there today. On my linux box I use Qmail. I highly recommend it. It's actually Qmail combined with vpopmail and a couple other goodies... but combined they can do just about anything. I've heard postfix does a good job too.
I just found another mail server for windows (works with linux too) that looks really cool. It's kind of like Qmail for windows. It's called xmail. You can learn more about it here: http://www.xmailserver.com .
