Pulling information from a table.

Okay. I'm new to working with MySQL and PHP, so please bear with me for a bit until I can better pick up on it. I want to create a table in my database that will hold a url in one feild and then text in another, so that I can dynamicly link to several hundred files I have residing on my server. I want the newest added files at the top of the output, and the oldest at the bottom.

I envision the table something like this:

Table: Pictures

And the out being like this:

<li><a href="URL">PICTURE</a>

I'm going to start taking a look into a way to do this myself, but thus far, you guys have been the best source of help for my projects. Let me know if you need to clarify anything.

Make sure you add an autoincremented ID column on to that.

Why this way? Why not use a PhP page, and pull all your info from the table? :

index2.php?picid=26

$query = "select * from pictures where id = $_post[picid]";
 $result = mysql_query($query);
 while $row =@ mysql_fetch_array($result)
   {
    $PicName = $row[$name];
    $caption = $row[caption];
    $pictitle = $row[title];
    }

or something along those lines.

How would I string all the varriables together to get the desired result? Something like:

<html>
<head>
<title><? $title ?></title>
</head>
<body>
<center><img src="<? $picname ?>"></center><br>
<center><h3><? echo $caption ?></h3></center>
</body>
</html>

Something along those lines. I'm sorry, but I'm a total noob here 🙂

Yes, almost. But instead of using just

<? $variable ?>

use

<? echo $variable; ?>

And then you should be pretty much on your way.

If things don't work: Check the source code of the output page, and the actual queries used (place, after defining the $query, on the next line: echo $query😉 this way you will get some idea of why thing wok/don't work.

What I did is:

while ($row =@ mysql_fetch_array($sql_result)) 
      {
      $body .= "
<h1>$row[Title] </h1>

And then in the html section I just place:

So far this sounds like it should work. Now my main question is, how do I generate the links (which is my main goal of this script), so that they come from the sql table, listing the highest ID first?

STEP 1 : create the table like so

CREATE TABLE pictures (
id INT (11) UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
title VARCHAR (255),
picture_file VARCHAR (255),
PRIMARY KEY(id),
UNIQUE(id),
INDEX(id)
)

STEP 2 : input the data into the table

STEP 3: write the php file to access the table and print the results, like so
