Installing phpMyAdmin

I'm trying to install phpMyAdmin on a server (not mine). I've got everything in the appropriate directories. When I go to the index page like it says in the instructions, I get an access denied error for the user. Then it says "Using password: no" even though in the config file I've entered the password in several places. I'm not quite sure what else in the config file I have to change, would anybody happen to know this? Thanks. 🙂

in your config.inc.php file

change this line

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type']     = 'config';    // Authentication method (config, http or cookie based)?

to read

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type']     = 'http';    // Authentication method (config, http or cookie based)?

then you will get an authentication box where you can enter your username and password

Thanks for that. I tried that and for some reason I'm still getting an access denied error. Every place that had the config I changed to http after just changing the one you mentioned didn't work. Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help. 🙂

I've been messing around with the config file, and even went into the server a bit to look around for possible solutions to the problem. So far I've found nothing. If anybody has any suggestions I'd be very grateful for them. Thanks. 🙂

are you CERTAIN you are inputting the correct username/password combo for mysql, can you log into a mysql prompt via command line, this needs to be the username/password for mysql

Yes, I am able to login via SSH to MySQL using the same username and password.

here is my attached config.inc.php, just take off the .txt and see if it works for you, it works fine for me on all domains i use it on

Thanks! That worked. 🙂 I think the problem may have been that I was adding user names and passwords, and that kind of defeats the purpose of prompting me for one. Anyways, I'm glad it works. Thanks! 🙂
