Could I, however, ask if anyone can direct me to an understandable explanation of the difference between ISO-8859-1 and UTF-8, i.e. why the byte sizes are different - what is the purpose? In the standard XHTML DOCTYPE declaration, which is what I use, the encoding is declared as UTF-8, which presumably renders a further meta-tag declaring the char-set as ISO-8859-1 superfluous, or does it?
