[Resolved] text fields in MySQL

ok, whenever i insert say a post into my MySQL forum it puts all the text in the post field as a single line. I.e whenever i type a post and put libe spaces inbetween things they disappear when i press post! I have heard of a function caled addslashes() and looked it up in the functions list, but it doesnt really answer me?!

how do i get it to recognise it when a user presses enter and misses a line?

The information for line breaks is in the code. All you have to do is use nl2br() when you output the data.

Ive never heard of this function so im improvising. that right?

Yes, that is the idea. However, it's ineffiecient to create variables needlessly. This would be better:
echo( nl2br($row[post]) );
or
echo("blah blah blah" . nl2br($row[post]) . "blah blah");
