OPEN_BASEDIR error

I receive this message:

open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/index.php) is not within the allowed path(s):

The index.php in is the www root. The include file is one directory up. ???

1. how have you called the include file in the index.php page.
2. also try putting the include file in the same directory and see if it works
3. what OS and php version are you running on ?
4. try <?php phpinfo(); ?> on your page and see what the value for open_basedir is

<?php include("admin/extras.php");?>
to
<?php include("/home/fireiceuser/www/fireice/admin/extras.php");
?>
