(Thiz) Linux problem

Hi, I got this problem with Thiz Linux, I have very little experience with Linux and only know a few commands.

Anyway I really wanted to get familiar with Linux, so when I tried to start gimp as root,-I was told I only had to type 'gimp'-, I got a warning like:

Gdk-WARNING : locale not supported by C library
Gtk-WARNING : cannot open display:

Anyone know how to fix this error?

Also I'm pretty unfamiliar with the man pages, how do I return to the command line???

If you're in the CLI (command line interface) Control-C should allow you to quit 'man whatever' and drop you back to the shell prompt. You're probably using bash, so include the standard disclaimers here.

As for gimp and your error messages, if you're starting gimp from the CLI and your're getting these messages, likely your X config is bad. What happens when you run X?

To get out of a man page just hit Q. As for your gimp problem it sounds like you are trying it from a shell without entering X, login as a normal user (ie not root) type startx and then try using gimp. It's hard to use a graphical program from a non graphical environment.
