Setting up and Securing MYsQL

Hi, I have done some php/mysql work at college before, but I am looking to further it on my own machine.

However...at college everything came pre set up and you just had to log onto the college sql database with your username and password, and you were sorted.

Setting it up on my home machine wasn't TOO hard (I used php triad..is this a good method?)

My main problem is with MYSQL. Logging on I think i get OK, creating databases I can do...but settting it up i just dont understand.....

Is there a really simple guide anywhere that tells you about priviledges...and user accounts and security?

I can create accounts and give them passwords , but i can also LOG ON with any name and password/no password!

How do i make it so that only the accounts I have specified can log in and do ANYTHING?

Or alternatively, is there a way to do this with a graphical user interface? :/

Try phpmyadmin.net . It's basically a web site you download that becomes a user interface for all your database administration meaning you don't need to use the mysql prompt.
