Looking for webhost

Hi all!

I have for several months been looking for a free webhost...no luck! I thought that maybe someone here knows a good free host... what I need:

Minimum of 20 Mb
Minimum 1 SQL-db
Support for PHP
FTP-access
No ads

Sounds impossible huh?! Thanks!

They aren't bad, if you are looking for something very simple, and don't mind your domain being a subdomain of theirs. You only get one MySQL database, too.

If you need more, they charge $7 per month -- I think you are going to find that to get the services that you want, you will have to pay. However, there are a lot of companies out there that have many different options for a very nominal fee. I am currently using vervehosting.com for my site (plug? what plug? 😃), and I'm paying $10 per month. For that price, here is what I'm getting:

200 MB Disk Space
40 Email Accts
10 MySQL Databases
10 Mailing Lists
5 Addon Domains
20 FTP Accounts
20 Sub Domains
10 GBBandwidth

It's an excellent deal, if you ask me.

I try and organise to have my own box hosted. My machine, configured how I want, running the software I want. In return I get use of the hosts' electricity, bandwidth, backup policy, and crash team. It means of course that I have to do upgrades etc. myself, or it's an extra contract job for the hosts, but I can have 60GB of disk space if I want it and all the clock cycles I can heat.

And call me old fashioned (see if I care), but if I can't go and have my own squizz of the hosting company's hardware I just have that much more trouble trusting them...

What kind of charges are you incurring from a dedicated box though weedpacket? Looking around hosts here in Australia, I can't find anything with enough bandwidth that is even vaguely affordable for me.

Oh, it's affordable - the box is a one-off expense, and I have one hosting agreement with no limit on the number of sites hosted. Figures vary.
Bandwidth? Depends on the host, but at least the Mbps range; if I needed much more bandwidth for a site than that I wouldn't want to have to share the machine (or the pipe) with who knows how many strangers anyway.

Of course, once or twice I've had to make an early-morning raid to the company's farm to retrieve a box ahead of the liquidators ... 🙂

Ah, there's no money in being a hosting company...

If you don't want to pay too much, then check out 34sp. I think it comes to about $21 a year for hosting.

Thanks for the answers...but...what I am looking for is a free host! i applied to f2o.org but it seems they have a lot of applications to go through...

Have to look some more... 🙁
