Select Distinct

I want to select all the rows that have a unique record, but I would like to select the ID at the same time which is always unique. Is there a way to SELECT (DISTINCT project), ID WHERE blah blah blah or am I going to have to do two queries?

That doesn't seem to be working. This is what I'm using:

SELECT DISTINCT(project), disp_order FROM reports_tree WHERE company = "Energy Electric, Inc"

This is what it returns:

Charity Hospitals Lighting Project Ver 1   2347

SELECT DISTINCT(project), disp_order FROM reports_tree WHERE company = "Energy Electric, Inc" group by project
