MSSQL: "Unable to connect to server" JOKE

Hello,
I'm running PHP 4.3.1 on Apache and W2K server with MSSQL 2k with sql server authentication enabled

all I need to work is:
MSSQL_CONNECT('[server]:[port]','sa','[secret]');

it works :-) but in cca 50% cases. I'm going crazy about this - five times I refresh IE I get the best results and then one time NOT second time YES and so all the way around.

I walked through google db but didn't find anything about this (may be I'm blind).

Does anybody know what can cause this freak behavior? Thank you for any ideas, Robert.

I am having the same problem. Half the time it will connect to the server and half the time it won't.

I wrote my connection script to do the following,

$db = mssql_connect($server, $db_name, $db_pass)or DIE("DATABASE FAILED TO RESPOND.");
if (!$db) {
header ("Location:".$REQUEST_URI);
}

This makes it loop until it does make a connection, but it isn't real stable.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hello,

I reinstalled the box, upgraded PHP and added it as an isapi filter to IIS6. Now it works 🙂

Sometimes it stucks when I cause a SQL error, but in stable release this doesn't occur.

Is your PHP running on the same box as your MS SQL does or is it connected via network? There can be problem with named pipes (may be) you can try to disable them. Try to change some other attributes in the client network utility as well (fe. ANSI to OEM).
No better idea...

I am glad I'm not alone who had this problem 🙂
