Php Doesn`t Support Mysql Functions

i gets this error on my php pages when i try to connect with a db:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_connect() in /var/www/html/ejemplo.php on line 3

i have red hat 9 with mysql support ...

what does this mean? why i can't use these functions?

This almost certainly means that you installed php and mysql but not the php-mysql rpm. It is on the install CDs and it is also available for download from the RedHat downloads website.

This rpm contains the libraries used by php to connect to mysql.

in which directory do i have to run the rpm -i command?..

usr/local/ or usr/lib/php4?

it asks for dependencies

    php = 4.2.2-8.0.5 is needed by php-mysql-4.2.2-8.0.5
    libmysqlclient.so.10 is needed by php-mysql-4.2.2-8.0.5

but i havent found them in red hat network

Did you install from CD?

If so just insert Disk 1 so it runs the setup program. From there (this is from memory so please excuse me if I'm wrong) you can select packages to install/uninstall.

You just need to make sure that all of the PHP/MySQL related packages are selected.

Alternatively you can download the source code from www.mysql.com and www.php.net and compile it yourself. This is by far the best solution as it gives you full control over the install and you can get the latest versions.
