Failed connect to MySQL using PHP after reinstalling RedHat Linux

there was x-window and redhat on my machine then the x-window suddenly seized to funtion.

then i reinstal linux redhat without formating but now when i connect to db using php mysql_connect() with localhost or remote setting, nothing comes out, just blank page. i had put the mysql_error() inside it. but manualy i can login using mysql client console. cansomebody help me.

Create a script with the following and tell me what it returns -

<?

@mysql_connect('host','user','pass')
   or die('MySQL error: ' . mysql_error());

echo 'Connected!';

?>

If it returns nothing run it without the "@" and tell me what it returns

have you checked the source of that blank page? Just curious, you never know when the answer is hiding on you.

Is php configured to log errors to a file or display them to the browser?

Yes. I got the error message after remove the '@' sign in front of mysql_connect().

The message is:

Fatal error: call to undefined function: mysql_connect() in /var/www/html/myfolder/myconnectdb.php on line XX

I had reinstall both mySQL and PHPmyAdmin, but still can't connect to my DB using PHP. Then I also have problem during installing the PHP-MYSQL 4.2.2-8.0.7. The program said some package can't be found and quit the installation.

Please give me a idea on this. Thanks.

uninstall the php, mysql and php-mysql rpms and then reinstall using the latest versions of the rpms from the redhat downloads website.

Had the same problem recently.
The packages for PHP4.2.2-8.0.7 were installed, but I could only find php-mysql-4.2.2-8.0.5 on redhat's site.

I finally found the right rpm at this link.

[url]ftp://updates.redhat.com/8.0/en/os/i386/php-mysql-4.2.2-8.0.7.i386.rpm[/url]

Do a search on redhats site for packages, use just the letters php and scan through the results for all the packages.
