Uncommon Problem with imap_open()

I'm attempting to create an email program using the imap functions in php, but I'm getting some very odd behaviours.

First, it's taken me a long time to figure out how to get it to even show me errors. When running the imap_open function, it would cause a seg-fault in Apache (1.3.27) until I accidentally mispelled the /notls option and put /nolts. It now gives me errors, but the error I get is this:

Can't open mailbox {localhost/nolts}: invalid remote specification

I have no clue what this means, and would REALLY appreciate some help, as I need this for a big section on my company's site.

I am experienceing the exact same problem and havent been able to find any resolution anywhere. Did you ever get this figured out or are you still working on it?
