Ok question about what could be causing the slowness of php and or mysql. First a explanation:
I currently am creating a web app that is up on my provider. It runs very fast. The server is linux running apache yada yada yada. With a fat pipe yada yada yada.
Now Im trying to host the site locally on my system at home. The webserver is running Windows 2003 (.net Server Enterprise) with IIS 6. It is a p2 400 with 192 megs of ram. The hdd is 10.2 gigs at 5400 rpm. The connection is cable with 256 up and 3 megs down.
I have php 4.3.1 installed and mysql 4.1 installed. All default installations. Now when I access the site on my box static html comes up pretty quickly. Heck even the login and first page go really fast. The first page contains 3 queries to get the count of rows for the 3 things I need to count, then echos out the count.
That runs very fast. But when I go to a page that uses joins even with like 2 records, it takes a long time. Meaning like 4-5 seconds. So can any give me some direction on what could be causing this? Perhaps there is a tool or command I can use to see if mysql is the bottleneck? Or maybe it is just the hardware and or the connection? I read through mysql manual and it can easily take up a lot of memory with queries so I wonder if that is the issue because 2003 server recommends bare bone 400 mhz I believe.
But I wanted to see if there was a way to test if it is hardware or configuration. BTW I need to stick with a Windows OS for business reasons
Thanks
