Is there any clever way to get the number of the week when having the date?

(From today and forward to the end of the year)

Depends on where you get the date from.
If it's a MySQL database, there may be some functions there for that.
If you get it as a string, [man]strtotime[/man] and [man]date[/man] (found in the manual under "Date/Time Functions" - funny, that.)
