Date Question

What would I do if I have a date in a MySQL database and I want to see if the date is within 30 days of today's date?

Is the date stored using time(), or is the column's type dateline?

The column type is listed as Date in MySQL. I am currently entering the dates in by hand using the YYYY-MM-DD format. But, I might want to have PHP automatically enter in the current date while creating a new record. But, that will be for another time.

I'm sure it will come in handy 🙂 Basically what you want to be doing is this:

SELECT fields FROM table WHERE DATE_ADD(NOW(), INTERVAL 30 DAY) <= date;

I guess I should have stated this earlier, but I don't want to do it in the select line. I want to output all the rows, but on each row that has a date of less than 30 days, I want to add a "NEW" graphic to the line. I can do the graphic part, but what would the if statement look like?

Something like

if (!($date>strtotime("-30 days",time())) 
{
//old 
}
else
{
//new
}

Might do the trick..

What did you put into the $date variable?

Is it in UNIX timestamp format?

No, it is the date field from a MySQL database in the form of YYYY-MM-DD.

Then you probably need to do something like:

if ((strtotime($date) <= strtotime("-30 days",time()))

That way you are at least comparing items in the same format.
