Re-ordering data

I am trying to design a very basic content management system using PHP/MySQL. I am having trouble finding a way to easy allow someone to manually change the order in which records from the database are displayed.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

since u have explained very little of what you want to do, im not sure if this is what your looking for.
1. have a drop down with the various column names to order by.
2. once user selects the column name, for example say date_created, capture the value and use it in the query to order by.

eg .
$to_order = $_POST['to_order'];
$query = "select * from table_name order by $to_order";

sorry, i didn't explain myself very well before

what i want to do is to MANUALLY choose the specific display order of the records - not choose the columns which are used to sort the records

e.g.

how can records 1,2,3,4,5 be re-arranged in the order 2,4,5,3,1
