generated link doesn't work but typed in does

I am having a problem with the PHP generated links in my code. Links created with downloaded scripts work but my don't. If i type the exact same url the page loads.

Here is the code:

<a href=<?PHP echo("view.php?start=".$next_start."&album=".$path_name); ?>>next page</a>

The link in the output is:
http://localhost/gallery/view.php?start=60&album=blue

Displaying variables shows that $next_start is "20", $album is "blue" (no extra characters)

Using the phpdev5 apache/php/mySQL on Win2K-sp3.

in your URL you are passing $next_start value as view.php?start=

so you should access it in view.php as $start and not $next_start ...

rather $_GET['start']

im not sure if this is the solution cause u havent elaborated more on the problem

Maybe I should restate this:

The links I create using PHP result in "page not found" errors.
If I manually type the the URL in the page will display properly.
So the URLs look right....

I am passing $next_start to $start, there is also a $prev_start.
I like this one peice of code to do alot of things...

The code works so the variables are being passed correctly, I
just have to type it in by hand........

The code samples I downloaded that link to themselves with
passed variables work..........
