Simple formula parser needed

Hi!

I am looking for a basic formula parser that could resolve things(strings) like:

"(ABC - 25 * 2 + ( 8 / 2 ) )"

ABC being 50 this should result in the value 4.

I have already searched the web but couldnt find anything. Could you help me out?

Maybe something like this :

 $ABC = 50;
 $string = "(ABC - 25 * 2 + ( 8 / 2 ) )";
 $string = str_replace("ABC", $ABC, $string);
 $number = eval($string);
?>

?!
