n00b getting 2 grips

i am just trying to get to grips with forms and variables. here is something very simple that i do not no.

there is one form. with a text field and submit button

your name: |paul |

Submit

once they enter their name and clcik submit on the page it says:

your name is paul

i no how to do this using variables...

but not using the form
