Cannot find server or DNS Error

Has anyone experienced and resolved a problem with php scripts occasionally generating a "Cannot find server or DNS Error"? After receiving the error, reloading the page using clears the problem. Our environment is PHP 4.3.1, Apache Web Server (1.3.22), and Windows 2000. The browser being used is 6.0.

This problem currently seems very sporadic; however, it occur frequently enough that we are concerned.

not too sure about the exact state of your problem, but are you hosting a company site or something that needs reliability

if so, i would really think about using a linux box, apache/php/win platform isn't the stablest combo out there

other than that i am not sure

Thank you for you quick response. We are just starting to use PHP and have initially started on a Windows box. The majority of our production applications are on Unix. At some point we may migrate.

I have seen this problem before with some of my scripts but they were very large scripts and I could solve the problem with

ini_set('max_execution_time', '1400');

But that was not a solution, just a quick fix for about 50% of the time, i'm not sure why this happens but I would love to know.

Does anyone know what causes this? I wrote a light processing script to create a summary table and I get this DNS error when I try to run the script. It doesnt hang at all just goes directly to the Cannot Find Server page. I've used a similar script many times before

Anyone? Please?

The really does sound like a network administration issue rather than a PHP one - the server is not being found at all, which may mean e.g., a bad routing table. I've never seen any admins solve one of these without at least three chickens being sacrificed, but whoever's responsible for keeping the server up and available is the one who's got to do the running around here 🙁

this problem happens to me also... I have a winnt+iis+php4 testbox

it was going ok, but then it started sending this "cannot find server" messages" only with the php scripts.

Any php script, even a single one with phpinfo() and in any location.

The plain html and asp where ok... i mean they work fine.

I dont know what the problem is.
