editing 'text' in db

Hi All -

I thought my problem would be pretty straight forward but it's proving a problem.

I'm building a forum and have created an edit function. The problem is that instead of updating with the new text, it creates a new entry in the table with this text.

The datatype is set to 'text' and the id is set to 'autoincrement'.

it would help if you post the code, cant really gather much with what you have posted till now

mysql_query ("UPDATE $texts SET text='$message' WHERE id='$textid'");

can't think what's wrong!

it's not anything to do with the data type of the field that holds the text is it?

try

$query = "UPDATE $texts SET text='".$message."' WHERE id=".$textid;
echo $query;
mysql_query ($query);

im assuming id is an integer, and $text is the name of the table if this is not the problem, then u need to post more of ure code rather than just the query !!
