Exporting mySQL?

Ok no so much a PHP topic, but I was wondering if anyone can help me.

I have recently created a database and a number of tables within mySQL and want to now export this and recreate this on another machine.

Does anyone know how I can go about this?

I had thought about exporting to a CSV but would this allow to recreate all the tables automatically as well?

Tell us more about the environment. Can you access the mysql data directories on both machines or must you go through something like phpMyAdmin?

If you can access the directories directly, then just create the appropriate folder on the target machine and copy all three files representing the database.

Otherwise, having phpMyAdmin on both machines makes exporting and importing way easier.

Ok just to give you a bit of background.

I am currently carrying out a bit of freelance work for a friend, now he works for the company and thus the tech guys there will have full access to directories.

I was basically wanting to know what files, and other stuff I would need to forward to them to enable them to recreate the setup I have on my machine.

My machine is Win2K with MySQL Control Center, Server is a Linux machine unsure about whether any GUI is installed.

Then it is a piece of cake. Under the MySql data directory, very often mysql/data, if default installation is used, create a directory which is the database name. Next, copy the tables for the database into the directory. There are three for each table. For example, table FUBAR will have FUBAR.MYI, FUBAR.MYD, and FUBAR.frm.

You are done. Take a look at it with MySql Control Center or some such and you'll see that you have a new database.

Cool

Just had a quick look in the mysql/data directory whilst thinking about it and saw a data directory named the same as the database name so hoped you would say that.

Using MySQL Control Center I also created a couple of users, will this info also be copied over?

Near as I can tell, once the database is setup, you update or add users to that database with Control Center like any other. The copied in database shows up and the userdata is kept in the mysql tables. But, I've never actually done this... I just copy in a database so that it is available via MySql ODBC for another project.
