help with delete query in mysql

So I have a submit button name delete that passes the variable $submit to this code. The query does activate properly however I get the sql error:

You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'key=16' at line 1

perhaps the key column is a text-based instead of numerical column... in which case you must wrap key=16 with key='16'

or prehaps key is a reserved word and you can't really name a column that in the first place

So I wrapped the variable $delkey in quotes and changed the field name of key to order, but it's still not working. I'm getting basically the same error:

perhaps its expecting and end ;

either that or maybe its expecting all table and column names wrapped in backticks ` (to the left of the 1 key on a standard keyboard)

i don't know of any setting that required the backtick

so try throwing in a ; a the end of you statement

$delquery = "delete from page where key=$delkey;";
