Page Footer

Ok, i'll try and explain this the best i can, but just bare with me.

What i want to do is add a footer to the bottom of my pages but i want to add it from the settings.php file so how can i put that information for the footer in say a fuction of some sort which can be called at the bottom of the page?

Well, you can have it in a variable. The variable should probably be global, as well, since you'll be calling it from a function.
global $variable;
$variable = "something to echo";
function echoit() {
echo($variable);
}
