Stuck in the red light zone (MySQL problem)

Hi,
I've been trying to get winmysqladmin up and running, but all I seem to be getting from it is a red traffic light.

When I attempt to open winmysqladmin the green traffic light goes on for literally a second or so, then the whole thing disappear from the screen leaving only a tiny red traffic light symbol on the bottom right hand side of the screen.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

hmm... maybe look through the error log file?
could be that mysql isnt setup right or something.
