MySQL and OS Compatibility Issues

Hi,

I'm trying to learn MySQL. More specifically I'm trying to develop an on-line database.

If you could answer each of my questions referenced below in the three parts...it would be appreciated.

My hosting company has MySQL v3.23 on Linux and I have a computer that runs XP. Can I develope on my PC and upload to my hosting site. If something is developed in XP can it be accessed onLinux?

Can I develop a database with MySQL V3.23 or V4 on the XP operating system on my computer and upload it to your server to work on the MySQL V3.23 on Linux operating system on your Web server?

Any good reference site to learn MySQL and PHP?

(do I need a special script, what utility do you require to upload a MySQL database to your Web server?

if the above scenario is possible, ....can I develop with MySQL 4.0 and upload to a hosting server that uses MySQL 3.23...and/or do I have to use the same version and develop on the same operating system? In other words, if I develop a database in 4.0 MySQL on XP is it backwards compatible and able to be accessed under MySQL 3.23 on the Linux operating system.?

Yes, you can develop both PHP and MySQL on XP and release on Linux, so long as you don't do anything that is platform-specific. You can develop with MySQL 4.0 so long as you don't take advantage of any new features that aren't in 3.x.

Use mysqldump or any MySQL admin utility to dump SQL images of the tables with or without data. I use PHPMyAdmin.
