Find the mode?

Is there a way to find the mode in a string of numbers (i.e. the number that appears the most number of times?)

you need to break the string of numbers up into an array of numbers, perhaps with [man]split[/man] or [man]preg_split[/man]

at this point you can apply the [man]array_count_values[/man] function

then you simply need to choose the highest value(s) in that array

here is one way

$str = "1 2 3 2 3 2 1 4";
$array = explode(' ', $str);
$counts = array_count_values($array);
$hicount = max($counts);
$counts = array_flip($counts);
echo "MODE $counts[$hicount]";

That works perfectly...except if there are any numbers that appear an equal number of times. I can't seem to figure a workaround for that. Any ideas?
