Getting content from a web page

Say I have a page of a sport news site, and I need just the little frame with the scroling news. The frame is not a seperated page, but a part of the page.

There's no copyright dealies here if it might be a problem.

What functions should I use to-

-Get the data in the page
-Mark the area I want to copy (and maybe to filter it)

I tried in PHP.net, but I don't even know where to start....

now how do I remove the top and bottom, or get out the middle? Which function?
