There's always something isn't there????
Just when I was starting to get to grips with some simple PHP scripts, I thought it was finally time to swing MySQL into action.
But (sure enough!), it doesn't work. Surprize surprize.
Anway...
I've installed and deleted and reinstalled MySQL about a billion times now and here's what happens (oh, by the way... did you notice how there's no option of UNinstalling MySQL? Obviously the developers were too cleaver to bother with that)...
Ok, so here's the scene...
I get the MySQL zipped file onto my computer.
I hit setup.exe and go through the setup procedure.
I install MySQL to C:/mysql (as is suggested by the setup.exe wizard)
Then I run WinMySQL admin as is recommended by the book I'm using. (it can be found in the new MySQL folder that I've just made, in a sub folder called "bin").
Then a little box comes up which talks about creating an "ini" file and it asks me to type in a username and password.
I do this.
Then I open up WinMySQL.
And NOW is where things start going wrong...
When I open WinMySQL, the admin panel just flashes up on the screen for about two seconds the vanishes leaving NOTHING BUT a little set of traffic lights in the bottom right hand corner of my computer screen.
Now according to all sources, I can right click this set of traffic lights and start MySQL that way.
But they stay red!!!!! They do NOT go green.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarggggggghhhh!!!!
Actually, that's a lie cos earlier on they did go green but only for about half a second before going red again.
Anyway, the punchline is that I'm totally miserable and right now I just feel like giving up on this whole shabang.
I so sick of it.
I hope someone can help me out here. If not then I'll upload some screenshots from my computer to graphically show people what I'm looking at. If that doesn't work then I'm gonna give up and take up something else.
With lots of love and even more misery,
David x
