Question about interpreting form entries?

Okay, I have a stupid idea, a one word story which is instantly updated (I see them all the time on forums and it takes so long to read through)..

If you want to see what I have so far..

I have two questions I would like to address....

Making it so you can only submit one word (If it includes a space/dot/any punctuation, it would not add it)
Making it so it cannot be longer then X characters. If i just set the form to max 20 chars or whatever, it can still be taken off and modified locally...
This is not necessary, but would like to make it so a user can only submit a word every X minutes (3?), without using mySQL....

Just a note...

Perhaps for the one regarding no punctuation, would there be a way to do something like if != to a,b,c,d,e, etc, all the letters/numbers, then it doesnt proceed? Be a lot easier then to get all the punctuation 🙂

check out the string functions, you will have to use a combination of some of them to do what you want, but this page will lead you to everything you need to get this done

Now for making it so you can only make 1 word every X mins.. would a cookie be in order?

Yeah, I think a cookie, although evil, would be best. It's easy to get around, but I doubt you're going to have a ton of people getting around it.

Just set it to expire after X minutes, and have it hold the value TRUE. Have the script check if the cookie's value is TRUE, if it is, then don't let them post.
