fsockopen and fgets...

please can someone give me a quick tutorial on the use of
fsockopen and fgets to open internet connections and download web pages....

also, is fopen a good option for this?

i knew that .....

but why do people use fsockopen...?

is fopen as fast and reliable?

if you look in the manual , you will see why im interested in fsockopen.....
it uses fgets to send requests .... and the requests part is what i want a tutorial about...

If you want to use fopen to open a socket, it only supports the protocols HTTP and FTP. So if you require one of those protocols, then go ahead and use fopen. But if you need to use another protocol, say NTP, or if you want to send your own HTTP headers (instead of the default ones with fopen) then you'll need to use fsockopen.
