What would be the reg expression I need to be able to make a match to a word weather its capitalized or not?
like
url URL uRL uRl
would all end up matching url?

for posix regex, just use the eregi instead of ereg.
just for the records (and because I prefer them): with PCRE it would be the i modifier:
pattern: "/url/i"
The main reason I have for keeping up on Posix regex is that so many other things support them. Like Postgresql, squid, apache, etc...
PCREs are much more powerful, just not as portable.
