CSS stands for cascading style sheets and is a very simple system for centralising style commands so that you don't have to put style attributes into every single HTML tag. ... if you want to learn PHP, you'll have to learn it step by step, which is the beauty of it and myriad other programming languages - they require work.

However, if you are already familiar with other programming languages, you'll probably forge ahead very quickly, or perhaps your mind is just naturally attuned to programming.

Whatever happens, learning a programming language and using it is loads of fun.

Well, interacting with a database is a good start. I suggest the following steps:

Get used to creating slightly more complex mysql queries, e.g. ones which a calculation or comparison. See mysql manual (tutorial section) for further details.
Get your head round arrays in PHP - manipulation of arrays is a lot of what you do with PHP. Play around with different options and operations. Experiment.
Get into the notion of passing variables using URL queries and $_GET[]. This simply means that you can collapse similar HTML files into one PHP file which displays content from the database according to which content is chosen by the user. I cut my files down to about 30% of the original amount just by grasping this concept.
