sort and remove?

I have this small script that extracts the image location from the html code:

$FileSource="<a href='images.php?File=/Jazz/Vintage/tigereyepin.jpg'>
<img src='/Jazz/Vintage/tigereyepin.jpg' border='0' align='left' height='100' width='100'></a>";

$startPos=strpos($FileSource, "?");
$endPos=strrpos($FileSource, "'>");
$FilePath=substr($FileSource, $startPos, $endPos);

echo"$FileSource<br />$FilePath";

That produces:

?File=/Jazz/Vintage/tigereyepin.jpg'>

Is there any command I can use to drop off the ? at the beginning and the '> at the end? I just want to drop them off, and write the text like:

File=/Jazz/Vintage/tigereyepin.jpg

You can use trim:

$FilePath = trim($FilePath,"?'>");

or:

$startPos = strpos($FileSource, "?") + 1; 
$endPos = strrpos($FileSource, "'>") - 2; 
$FilePath = substr($FileSource,$startPos,$endPos);

The trim does work, but I realized an issue:

$FileSource="<a href='images.php?File=/Jazz/Vintage/tigereyepin.jpg'>
<img src='/Jazz/Vintage/tigereyepin.jpg' border='0' align='left' height='100' width='100'></a>";

$startPos=strpos($FileSource, "?");
$endPos=strrpos($FileSource, "'>");
$FilePath=substr($FileSource, $startPos, $endPos);
$FilePath = trim($FilePath,"?'>");

echo"$FilePath";

the end position is not looking for '> after the file name, it is going to the one at the end of the entire string!

So I still have the whole img src code stuck there! How can I get it to trim the whoile img src code and leave just:

File=/Jazz/Vintage/tigereyepin.jpg

well, sort of. I got it working, but now I can't seem to get rid of the last '> no matter how I try it, I tried trimming it, and I also tried this:

$FileSource="<a href='images.php?File=/Jazz/Vintage/tigereyepin.jpg'><img src='/Jazz/Vintage/tigereyepin.jpg'

border='0' align='left' height='100' width='100'></a>";

$startPos=strpos($FileSource, "?") +1;
$endPos=strpos($FileSource, "'>") -2;
$FilePath=substr($FileSource, $startPos, $endPos);

echo"$FilePath";

the ? vanishes, no issue. The img src code vanishes, no issue. But no matter what that little '> stays there like this:

File=/Jazz/Vintage/tigereyepin.jpg'>

why cann't I delete it? I viewed the source of the page and there are no hidden characters being displayed or anything. huhuhuh?

Well, you can use a regular expression like this:

$FileSource="<a href='images.php?File=/Jazz/Vintage/tigereyepin.jpg'><img src='/Jazz/Vintage/tigereyepin.jpg' border='0' align='left' height='100' width='100'></a>"; 

$regex = "/<a href='images\.php\?(.*?)'>/";

preg_match($regex,$FileSource,$matches);
echo $matches[1];

I can't figure out why substr() is returning the wrong value.
