simple graphical explanation?

ive been trying to use this function and am finding it quite difficult to remember which co-ordinates is what.

can someone here perhaps draw a quick image of a rectangle and point out where the corresponding points lie?

ul_x is the upper left x coordinate of the rectangle.

ul_y is the upper left y coordinate of the rectangle.

lr_x is the lower right x coordinate of the rectangle.

lr_y is the lower right y coordinate of the rectangle.

i figured it out eventually

but im a bit stumped as to how i can keep text within the box from overrunning outside the box.

at the moment i am using a minimum word per sentence function but i dont think this is an absolute garantee that the sentence wont overrun the box lines.

any suggestions?

Hi,

As posted in this forum quite often.. For most LAYOUT related problems.. Check the CSS manual. THere is a wole section on creating "boxes"and also how to use them incombination with different media-types.

You find a manual on the W3C website:

i am intrigued why you think im using CSS. im actuallly drawing boxes and things using the set of printer functions in PHP - this is for hardcopy output to the printer.

but would it be possible to somehow integrate CSS into the printer function? in a sense that i coulsd draw objects in CSS and then pass them on to printer functions or does this sound to complex??

if possible please give an example using the rectangle box with text inside it with CSS & printer function.

Hi Madhaver,

I cannot locate the printer_draw_rectangle function in the manual (A search of the manual doesn't give any results).

I realize you were not using CSS, it was merely a suggestion to check it.

Wether you can combine the two will depend on wether the printer_draw_rectangle operates as server or clientside. CSS can be very handy to format output to a printer: You can define the layout, page size etcetc for normal HTML documents, and set other settings for printing (Such as page breaks, no background, margins etcetc).

i think its catch 22 cos these printer functions are only on the serverside and CSS stuff is done client side.

my problem is that the system previously used javascript printing functions to print documents to the printer but my client said they did not want the dialog appearing as its too inefficient which is what really prompted me to turn to serverside php printing functions because when you print using this its instant no dialog pops up etc which is exactly what i need.
