File Names

Hi

I am listing files in a directory, which is simple enough, however, I want to split the file name from the extension (.jpg etc).

Help!

I'm more of a newbie, so there might be a inbuilt function to help, but I've tried exploding an array, which gives me the .jpg bit, but I still can't trim the extension from the file name!

Any help grateful!

Hi, this is what I use (Although it does give you a problem when your extention is not 3 symbols long...

// $cfile = current file name + extention

$length = strlen($cfile);
   $length = $length-4; // get rid of the last 4

$cfilenm = substr($cfile, 0, $length);

you can use strrpos to get rid of the extension length problem. try smth like this:

$name=substr($file_name,0,strrpos($file_name,'.'))

where $file_name could be "picture.jpg" or "picture.jpeg"
