It does, but in regexps "." is a special symbol meaning "any character". "t" qualifies for that, so "tc" is a match.
You'll need to either escape the . with a \ (i.e., use ".") or (the preferred solution in this case) use a simpler function; strpos or strstr, say - because you don't need a full-blown regular-expression matching engine to do what you're asking it to do.
