"." and ereg

Hello,

I have this code ...

$text="testc";
if ( ereg(".c",$text)  ) 

{
echo"TRUE";
}
else
{
echo"FALSE";
}

It should return FALSE ($text doesn't contain ".c" , but I receive TRUE . Anyone can explain me why ? Perhaps ereg does not check "." ?

It does, but in regexps "." is a special symbol meaning "any character". "t" qualifies for that, so "tc" is a match.

You'll need to either escape the . with a \ (i.e., use ".") or (the preferred solution in this case) use a simpler function; strpos or strstr, say - because you don't need a full-blown regular-expression matching engine to do what you're asking it to do.
