Hi,
I have PHP 4.3.1 installed on a W2000, IIS. When I try to use session variables I get this errormess:Notice: Undefined variable: namn in D:\sessions\page2.php on line 3

This is my code, (by a SAMS book!)
page1.php:
<?php
session_start();
session_register("namn");
$namn = "test";
?>
<A HREF="page2.php">page2</A>

page2.php:
<?php
session_start();
echo $namn;
?>

session_start(); 
session_register("namn"); 
$namn = "test";

page2.php:

 
session_start(); 
echo $HTTP_SESSION_VARS[namn];

I get both a result and an errormess. Here is a copy and paste direct from my screen:

(I copied this straight from my source, and I get no error mess.)

But I am always having trouble with where to quote and weher not..

It looks like iyt needs quotes:

echo $HTTP_SESSION_VARS['namn'];

??

Just out of curiosity I've tried to answer the obvious why-question since I've used an example from a book. And the only thing that differs is that the book is from 2001 and refers to PHP 4, and the install is 4.3.1

Or can it be something else?

Hi,

A lot of things have changed in the newere versions of PhP (Like global sessions switched of, but also the direct refering to some var's have been switched off. So yeah.. Most likely..

get a newer book, or older PhP ;-)
